Summary

Performs radiation physics services for pediatric patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology in accordance with the standards of practice. Ensures the delivery of accurate radiation doses to pediatric patients. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the organization.

 

The department of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude has a full-service with the focus on developing new treatments and methods for pediatric patient care. A component of effort is available for clinical trials and clinically-focused research projects. Services include conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, cone-beam CT-guided radiotherapy, brachytherapy (eye plaque and HDR), total body irradiation, and proton therapy.  The St. Jude Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center is the world’s only proton center dedicated solely to the treatment of children. The system is equipped with the Hitachi PROBEAT proton scanning beam delivery system (2 gantry rooms and 1 fixed horizontal beam room). Treatment planning systems includes Eclipse, Pinnacle, RayStation and Oncentra for HDR. Oncology Information System is MOSAIQ. Recently a purchase contract with Philips Healthcare has been executed. It will provide 1.5T MR, 3T MR, Spectral CT, Digital PET/CT, and Intellispace software. Our institutional commitment is to provide excellent clinical patient care and ground-breaking research in pediatric oncology and radiation oncology.

Minimum Education

MS or PhD in Physical Sciences required.

Minimum Experience

Four (4) years of experience with MS in Physics.

Two (2) years of experience with MS in Medical Physics or PhD in Physics.

Completion of Part II of the American Board of Radiology Exam preferred.
